Concerned Women on the Move, Inc. is a Black women–led Democratic organization dedicated to lifting women’s voices in politics, shaping people-centered policy, and getting more women elected to public office. We build community, train leaders, and mobilize voters so empowered women can transform our democracy.
Founded in 1997 by Kathy Huggins, Concerned Women on the Move, Inc. was created to lift the voices of women—especially Black women—in politics and to help shape strong, people-centered legislation and policy. As an affiliate club of the Pennsylvania Federation of Democratic Women (PFDW), our early leaders, including the late Peggy Hein, united twelve local women who shared a bold vision: to organize across Pennsylvania and get more women elected to public office.
Â
In 2000, Concerned Women on the Move hosted a landmark Women’s Democratic Convention at the Adam’s Mark Hotel, where Tipper Gore served as keynote speaker. Since then, we have continued to work tirelessly to get out the vote and to educate, train, and support women to step into their power and become active leaders in the political system.
